Presenting “Russian Lessons” in Prison № 8
Within the framework of the project that envisages showing of informational-educational films in the penitentiary establishments, a new Russian documentary “Russian Lessons” was presented in Prison № 8 in Gldani. With this purpose, Minister of Corrections and Legal Assistance Dimitri Shashkini and Deputy Minister Levan Zarandia visited the penitentiary establishment and together with the convicts watched a movie on August war of 2008. Producer Giorgi Arveladze presented the two-hour movie film on Russian aggression which was directed by Andrey Nekrasov. The documentary “Russian Lessons” is only based on true stories. The producers were in Tskhinvali Region during the hostilities and personally witnessed the events that took place there. The film includes stories of the war of 1993 as well. The film caused great interest among the convicts. Afterwards, it was followed by active discussion. On the initiative of the Ministry of Corrections and Legal Assistance, convicts will periodically have an opportunity to watch new popular movies in every penitentiary establishment. Non-Governmental Organization “Rights and Freedoms – Union” started the project on showing informational-educational films to the convicts in the penitentiary establishments. The project is funded by “the Civil Institutionalism Development Fund”. The first movie was shown in the Juveniles Correctional Establishment, were convicts watched one of the most popular Georgian films “A Trip to Karabagh-2 - Conflict Zone”.
