A seminar for media representatives was held in Bazaleti Tourist Complex. The meeting was aimed at better acquaintance with the activities of National Service of Non-custodial Punishment and Probation, ensuring transparency of the ongoing reforms and improving communication between the media and the Ministry. The Minister of Corrections and Legal Assistance Dimitri Shashkini introduced to journalists the reforms implemented during the last 10 months

Nine juvenile probationers were awarded certificates for successfully completing computer and English language courses. Certificates were awarded by the First Deputy Minister of Corrections and Legal Assistance Koka Seperteladze. The project had been implemented during two months with 29 conditional convicts involved in the programme. Nine of them had been studying computer skills and twenty other probationers were taking English language course.

At Parliamentary Anti Crises Council sitting the members of Council listened to the Minister of Corrections and Legal Assistance Dimitri Shashkini. The first part of the meeting in closed format was given to the Minister’s report. Afterwards the Members of Parliament could get comprehensive answers on all the questions. Most of the questions were related to the Penitentiary system and the ongoing reforms, as well as those planned in the future.

Representatives of diplomatic corps visited Prison №8 in Gldani and the Medical Establishment for Convicts and Prisoners. Diplomats from French, Hungarian and US Embassy participated in the visit. Visit was organized within the framework of the MCLA’s initiative aimed at ensuring the transparency of the Ministry and giving the opportunity to diplomatic corps and international institutions to have clear picture of ongoing reforms within the MCLA.

With the support of the Ministry of Corrections and Legal Assistance, 2 probationers were employed in the esthetic medical centre “Esthetic service”. With this aim, the Minister of Corrections and Legal Assistance, Dimitri Shashkini and the Head of National Service of Execution of Non-custodial Sentences and Probation, Teimuraz Iobidze visited esthetic medical centre.

Two convicts will serve the rest of the sentence at Churches and Monasteries through the mediation of the Standing Commission of the Ministry of Corrections and Legal Assistance. For this purpose the Minister of Corrections and Legal Assistance and the Deputy Ministers Koka Seperteladze and Levan Zarandia visited the Patriarchate of Georgia and met with the Metropolitan Theodore.
