
Commission discussed cases of 127 condemned
Standing Commission has discussed solicitation concerning early release of 127 convicts. As a result, Commission regarded expedient to appeal to the Court for early release of 15 convicts. Two of them will be sent to the monasteries for future rehabilitation according to the Memorandum of Understanding signed by the Georgian Patriarchate and the Government.

Free legal aid
Director of Legal Aid Service of the Ministry of Corrections and Legal Assistance Irakli Kobidze and the lawyers of Kvemo Kartli Legal Aid Service Bureau met with multiethnic population of the village Tsereteli in Marneuli District in order to provide them with free legal consultations and raise awareness about the service. Public lawyers and consultants talked about the legal issues and answered the questions of the population.

Diplomats acquainted with MCLA system in Imereti
Representatives of Norwegian Mission of Rule of Law Advisers to Georgia (NORLAG) and Hungarian Embassy visited different agencies of the Ministry of Corrections and Legal Assistance. The visitors saw the #2 Prison in Kutaisi, as well as the Imereti regional Legal Aid Bureaus in Kutaisi and Zestaponi.

Minister met with the students of University of Georgia
Minister of Corrections and Legal Assistance Dimitri Shashkini met with the students of University of Georgia and introduced the Second Wave of Democratic Reforms in Georgia and the reforms ongoing within the penitentiary system, as well as those already implemented. The meeting was conducted in a dialogue regime.

Preparation for the National Entry Exams
Lectures of Ilia Chavchavadze State University started preparation of the convicted prisoners serving their sentences in the Juveniles Correctional Establishment for the 2010 National Exams. Minister of Corrections and Legal Assistance, Dimitri Shashkini, Deputy Minister, Levan Zarandia, the Rector of Ilia Chavchavadze State University, Gigi Tevzadze, and the University lectures paid a visit to the Juveniles Correctional Establishment and got acquainted with the National Exams preparation process of the university entrants.

Trade exhibition of the handicraft of the convicted women
The handicraft of the convicted women was put on trade exhibition at the “Hob” Gallery. Deputy Ministers of Corrections and Legal Assistance Koka Sepherteladze and Levan Zarandia attended the event. Especially for this exhibition, women detainees presented different Gobelin and thick felt handiwork, including clothes, bags, adornments and pictures.
