Representatives international organizations visited probation and legal aid bureaus in Zugdidi, Samegrelo Region. The visit was organized within the framework of the MCLA’s initiative, which is aimed at ensuring the transparency of the Ministry and giving the opportunity to the Embassies and international institutions to have clear picture of ongoing reforms within the MCLA.

Member of the parliamentary opposition Dimitri Lortkipanidze paid a visit to the Penitentiary Establishment N7 of Common and Strict Regime in Ksani and got acquainted with the existing conditions. According to the MP, he received a letter from the convicted prisoners who referred to the problems existing in the establishment.

By the active support of the Ministry of Sport, Culture and Monument Protection, project of showing informational-cognitive films for the convicts has been started at the Penitentiary Establishments. Goal of the project lies in assistance to the convicts development, after leaving penitentiary establishments to return back as full members of the society.

Minister of Corrections and Legal Assistance Dimitri Shashkini met with the pupils of №52 Public School. The meeting was organized by the initiative of the pupils of higher grades. A special interest to juvenile justice and the reforms implemented within the MCLA was raised during the course of Law included in the curriculum.

The bakery was opened in Penitentiary Establishment №10 in order to continue the employment process of prisoners. The opening was attended by the Minister of Corrections and Legal assistance Dimitri Shashkini, Deputy Minister Levan Zarandia and the managing board of the company “Megafood”. At first stage the prisoners will be taught baking by the professional baker hired by “Megafood”. The training period will last for a month and afterwards the prisoners will be employed at the bakery.
