The improvement of the accessibility and quality of healthcare service for pre-trial inmates and convicts is one of the main priorities for the MCLA.
Infrastructural reforms within the penitentiary system made it possible to improve the healthcare services.
Consequently, a number of important arrangements were made, in particular:
The primary healthcare system reform, which is being implemented together with the international partners and the MoLHSA, is actively evolving. The precise and timely diagnosis will lead to the effective treatment and prevention of spread of diseases.
It is important that the anti-tuberculosis program is the integral part of the national tuberculosis program. It is also significant that a new building will be constructed in Ksani Medical Establishment for tubercular inmates by 2012. This will minimize the spread of tuberculosis within the system.
The Medical Department of the MCLA closely cooperates with MoLHSA in wide range of issues. The most important is the adoption of Action Plan by the joint order of the MCLA and MoLHSA. According to the Action Plan the concrete reforms will be pursued in order to bring the healthcare of penitentiary system to the standards of the civil sector healthcare.
